OpenAI Dots

OpenAI's always-on personal agents: each "Dot" gets its own cloud computer and browser and works on your goals in the background.

TechCrunch: OpenAI launches Dots

Overview

OpenAI calls Dots "remarkably capable, always-on agents built to handle everything." A Dot runs on GPT-6 Astra in its own hosted computer and browser. It reaches 4,000+ apps through OpenAI's plugins and keeps pursuing a goal you set, with minimal check-ins. You name and customise your Dot and message it from ChatGPT, Codex, Slack or Teams. SMS support is coming.

Example uses from the launch: a developer's Dot watches customer feedback and ships fixes; a scientist's Dot reruns an analysis when new data lands.

Availability

  • ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium (beta for Enterprise, Edu, Healthcare)
  • One Dot per user at launch; "teams of Dots" are on the roadmap
  • Not available in the EEA, Switzerland or UK at launch
  • Enterprise identity and permissions via Microsoft Agent 365

Why Interesting

This is the commercial, hosted take on the openclaw idea, and OpenClaw's creator Peter Steinberger joined OpenAI in February 2026 "to drive the next generation of personal agents". Dots launched the same month as Meta's Muse agent, a few weeks after grok-bot, putting every big lab in the personal agent race.
